This frosting is an old-fashioned, homestyle vanilla buttercream. In my opinion, it's far superior to any fancy buttercream made with cooked sugar and egg whites (think wedding cake). You can't pipe roses with it, but the taste and texture are second to none!
Makes enough to frost 1 cake or 24 cupcakes.
Ingredients
13 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
3 tablespoons cream cheese
4 cups confectioners' sugar
6 tablespoons heavy cream, plus a little more if needed
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
pinch salt
Directions
1. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream butter and cream cheese.
2. Gradually work in sugar, alternating with the cream and beating well between each addition.
3. Add vanilla and salt and blend until incorporated. Frost cake or cupcakes.
